Bruno Otávio
was born on In 2003 he received the
(first-class honors) bachelor degree in Control and Automation Engineering
from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). As an undergraduate student, from
middle 1999 to 2002, he joined the MACSIN
research group (under the supervision of Prof. Luis A. Aguirre) where he was
involved with biomedical nonlinear signal processing. In 2003 he dealt with
the modeling and control of an Usiminas’s
reheating furnace in his Undergraduate Degree Project (being supervised by
Prof. Fábio G. Jota at the GCPI research group). He joined the post-graduation
program (PPGEE/UFMG) in 2004 as a
master student in Electrical Engineering (Signals and Systems) at MACSIN
under the supervision of Prof. Leonardo A. B. Tôrres
and Prof. Luis A. Aguirre. In June, 2005, his application to the doctorate
program was accepted and he became a PhD student. He has been studying
recursive and batch algorithms of probabilistic inference (based on the
Sigma-Point Kalman Filter and Smoother) on the parameter and state estimation
of nonlinear systems (adding emphasis on aircraft applications). Since the second semester of
2004, he is a (substitute) assistant professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering of
UFMG. Research
